Who am I? Who cares? Good questions. It's my site so I'm going to tap into the slow summer months once in awhile by telling you more about who I am - via a "Stuff I Like" series. Nothing too serious, just exploring the micro-niche that resides at the base of all of our lives. Potshots encouraged in the comments.
From the bards who heavily influenced the artist now known as Capitalist (aka KD):
"Now.......
me and my Adidas do the illest things
we like to stomp out pimps with diamond rings
we slay all suckers who perpetrate
and lay down law from state to state
we travel on gravel, dirt road or street
I wear my Adidas when I rock the beat
on stage front page every show I go
it's Adidas on my feet high top or low
My Adidas.."
When I get loyal to a brand, I get up close and personal. I like to grab onto brands I trust and never let go. You've heard about my addiction to Diet Mountain Dew and Panera Bread, so let's turn our attention to clothing. Many of you would assume with my appreciation for dapper Steve Boese in the HR Tech space, my preferences trend towards Hugo Boss or Armani.
You'd be wrong. The true staple in my closet is Adidas.
Why do I love Adidas? Let me count the ways:
1. Design: 3 Stripes = simplicity and elegance. All design should accomplish so much with so little.
2. It's one small way I can feel international: What's the biggest sports brand internationally? ADIDAS. I'm the ugly American, so maybe I can relate to all those soccer fans outside the states by wearning Adidas. On second thought, check that. I really don't understand them at all. But, I respect the fact that they're wearing the astroturf soccer model through the airport.
3. Adidas is the reasonable choice for those (like me) who appreciate the underdog. Don't see many Adidas commercials, and for a long time in my formative years, Nike ran the table on Adidas. I don't drink the Nike kool-aid. If I don't want to wear Nikes, what are my choices? Reebok? Haven't liked those since Dee Brown was pumping his up in a dunk contest. New Balance? Aren't those the shoes that all the old folks wear walking around the mall?
4. I like what the initials stand for related to my career: ALL DAY I DREAM ABOUT SOURCING (ADIDAS). What? There's another interpretation?
5. Stripes make me look taller and faster. With stripes running down my arm or legs, let's face it - I look like a sleek predator who can run short bursts at high speed. Or maybe I can just bust the 12 foot jumper on the fat guy from accounting over lunch. Either way, the stripes make me feel like a player.
6. The web-toe model - wear this one, and you can almost hear the lyrics to JAM MASTER JAAAAAY... Extra points if you wear them without laces.
Last count, I had 6 pairs of active Adidas. These kicks are at the core of KD's personal brand. I dare someone to hit me in the comments about their love for their Nikes. They won't do it, you know why? NOBODY LOVES THEIR NIKES. You buy them because it's like Tyler Durden once said: "working jobs you hate, to buy **** you don't need".
Of course, that doesn't apply to my last pair of Adidas. I NEEDED those...
"my Adidas are seen on the movie screen
Hollywood knows we're good if you know what I mean
we started in the alley, now we chill in Cali
and I won't trade my Adidas for no beat up Bally's...
My Adidas.."

I appreciate the Adidas, but if I had to go to the well for a sneaker it would have to be classic Chuck Taylor's, high tops, in white. Probably not dapper, but that is how I roll.

I used to run in Nikes, but they started killing my feet. Now I've moved on to Brooks, and I couldn't be happier. Tough to find Adidas for size 13/14 for me. :-)

So, not so much with the Adidas. I'm all about Asics. Size 8B. They always fit, new ones don't give me blisters, and they last forever. That's about as good as a shoe experience gets!

I just bought some New Balance on sale, since I have a very wide foot, but away from work, I mostly have been wearing flip-flops lately.
