You make a good point, Kris. The review board has to be able to envision a person's potential, because in many cases, they are growing into the position and building on previously developed skills. They won't necessarily have the full skillset up front when they come to the table. But hiring by committee is definitely worth a shot. Many governments are doing this now - it can also help weed out nepotism.

I agree with everything you say but I would take out LeBron James since he would be an employee...a charismatic and forceful employee (and leader). I would use Theo Epstein, The Rooneys, Ken Holland (Detroit Red Wings GM), and Mitch Kupchek (Lakers GM) as great examples of talent evaluators who had to make the tough decisions and stick to those decisions.
