Heard On the Street - "Morris Day? Is that a New Hire?"

I'm still in a state of shock about the uber-marketing chops of SHRM Florida, bringing in Morris Day and the Time to rock the house at their state meeting.  It's brilliant...

Of course, leave it to my Gen Y brethren out there in to reign in the Capitalist enthusiasm a little bit.  HR Capitalist reader "M" from SoCal checked in after the post went up with this classic playback:

"So I read your SHRM Florida post and shouted out in our HR office... 'Anyone know who Morris Day is?'

Response - "Is that a new hire?"  "What division is he for?"  "Name doesn't ring a bell"...

Thought you'd get a chuckle out of that..."

SHRM-Florida has set the bar a little high for the future.  What crazy counter-culture selection will they go with for 2009?  My vote is Biz Markie, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones or Kip Winger.. Hit me in the comments with your selection, and yes, my Gen Y friends, you can play the game...

Snorting. Morris is that guy from accounting ho puts on funky disco clothes every Friday night and heads down to cruise the local club scene until 10 PM, and then heads home so he can avoid the rush of the late night crowds leaving the scene...

You know, I even enjoyed the keynote speakers at HR Florida, especially D. Michael Abrashoff, who talked about how he took command of the worst performing ship in the fleet and made it #1 by changing the culture — not the crew.

Michael - Nice call, but to my discredit, I didn't check the agenda. Abrashoff was there? I have a high opinion of him, love seeing him on the news channels - kind of instills confidence, doesn't he?

Dang. yes I know who Morris Day is, and yes I too am a dinosaur. That new hire reference is hilarious though! As for 2009 selections, I have to go with recent comebacks NKOTB - who else would hire them? or maybe Hootie!! Now THAT would rock!
